AT&T will offer free internet access to new customers for two months and low-income households can continue to subscribe for $10/month. All public WiFi hotspots are open to anyone. AT&T will not terminate service of any customer due to an inability to pay and all late payment fees will be waived. Click here to learn more.

Guidance Center – Community Resource Centers Several Downriver Head Start sites (e.g., Taylor, River Rouge) host clothing closets offering free clothing for families, along with parenting supports and literacy events 

Downriver Foster Closet (Wyandotte)Offers free clothing, underwear, socks, shoes, and suitcases to foster children—and now to birth families too 

Emmanuel Lutheran Church Clothes Closet (Wayne County)Open Wednesdays 9–10:30 am; anyone can get a bag of clothes once per month—no referral needed

Crossroads of Michigan Clothing Closet (Detroit)By appointment only, provides emergency clothing plus food, transportation help, and prescription assistance 

Assistance League of SE MichiganRuns a nonprofit thrift store (“Resale Connection”) and offers clothing assistance through its programs in Wayne, Oakland & Macomb counties 

Volunteers of America Michigan (VOAMI) Thrift stores in Westland and surrounding areas. They pick up donated clothing & furniture for free, with proceeds funding local services 

Tips for Accessing Services: Call ahead to confirm eligibility, hours, and appointment needs.
  • Recycled clothing spots may have limited stock, so early visits are best.

 The State Unemployment Office will extend benefits to workers who are sick, quarantined or taking care of family members who are ill. First responders in the public health community who became ill or quarantined due to exposure are also eligible. Self-employed workers and independent contractors who don’t have access to unemployment insurance will now have access to benefits.
